Edition 2: 100 sewing machines
Fashion helps fight poverty...
Dreams will get you nowhere if you dont do anything about them. I figured that if we wanted to help people with our design skills, we need to get equipment to them first. The idea is to work with Crossroads International www.crossroads.org.hk who have 10 years of experience collecting unwanted goods (everything..from furniture to espresso machines) and sending them in containers to projects all over the developing world. We intend the China-made foot pedal machines to be part of microfinancing schemes in SE Asia, projects who hopefully we can eventually place orders with. We believe that empowering women and providing a headstart for people to save and build a life out of poverty will help economies in the long run.
This project is about sewing and about women...so the design looks like it has been stitched on, and also like a colouring book picture. Aware that many women would like to be creative but are not sure how to do it, we invite anyone who would like to join sew sequins and whatnot on, to make them look prettier..and encourage sales, or to keep the final result yourself, at the cost of the T of course...still only $100 :-) This project is rather more organic than the previous one, it seems to have taken on a life of its own...Im not quite sure where its going!
The third Hope Tees sequin club will be in Soho some time next week (july 8-)....
